Two European Commission health and safety agency audits have identified safety issues with milk and dairy products in Romania and Finland. The Romanian audit revealed problems with lab testing and enforcement, particularly in relation to raw milk criteria and the network of accredited labs. The Finnish audit praised the raw milk quality and lab network but found weaknesses in the control system and noted that dairy co-operatives are not included in official controls. The audits also highlighted issues with the leniency of inspection reports and the lack of training and resources for officials in both countries.
