EU short-term forecasts: Food production grows, excluding peaches, beef, and poultry

With significant progress in the EU-wide vaccination campaign against COVID-19, food services are reopening and travel restrictions are being phased out. This should have a positive impact on tourism this summer and on food consumption in the EU as a whole. However, uncertainty remains due to the Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus and the ability to control it. The summer edition of the short-term forecast report, published on 6 July 2021 by the European Commission, provides a detailed overview of the latest trends and future prospects for each sector of the food industry. The prices of the main arable crops underwent significant changes in the spring due to the high demand from China and the United States and the uncertainty about the levels of world production.
