Mehmet Çelik, a farmer in Aksaray, Turkey, has found success in cultivating 'gojy berry' or 'wolf grape' trees, a plant originally from Tibet, on the slopes of Hasandağı. The plant, which requires minimal water and effort, has seen increased demand, particularly during the pandemic. The fruit is rich in selenium and is exported mainly to European countries through wholesalers, with Turkey being the preferred source since a 2015 EU ban on imports from China. The production not only brings significant profit but also provides employment opportunities for local women, who have formed a cooperative. The Provincial Directorate of Agriculture is setting up a garden covering 35 decares to further cultivate the plant.
