Dutch onion exports for the first half of the marketing season from July 2022 to December 2022 saw a decrease of over 50,000 tons compared to the previous year, totaling 764,000 tons. This decrease is attributed to a smaller harvest in 2022, with a provisional estimate of 1.2 million tonnes, which is 250,000 tons less than the 2021 harvest. The limited supply and constant demand have led to above-average prices, with the cost per 100 kilos reaching as high as 50 euros for the coarsest yellow onions. Despite this, demand from abroad has slightly decreased, resulting in prices being a few euros lower in recent weeks. Senegal, Ivory Coast, and Great Britain were the top buyers, with Great Britain purchasing the most, while Belgium and the Dominican Republic saw significant increases in their purchases.
