In the first half of 2020, Italian dairy exports experienced a 3% increase in volume, continuing a multi-year growth trend, as reported by Assolatte. Despite the pandemic, the total turnover also rose, with cheeses and dairy products generating over 1.5 billion euros in sales. Not all categories performed equally, with Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano showing limited growth but experiencing a 3.5% drop due to declining unit values. On the other hand, mozzarella, ricotta, and other fresh cheeses saw a 7% increase in physical exports and a 6.4% rise in revenue. The grated segment also performed well, growing by over 6%. However, Fiore Sardo and Pecorino Romano exports experienced significant losses. Overall, the domestic market showed an 11.5% increase in dairy product sales.
