A charter flight operated by Afghan QAM Airlines transported 45 tons of pine nuts from Kabul, Afghanistan to Shanghai, China on January 10, marking the first pine nut shipment from Afghanistan to China in 2022. This follows the establishment of the interim government by the Afghan Taliban, which has led to the fulfillment of the country's initial foreign trade orders. The pine nuts, renowned for their quality, are a primary crop and source of income in northeastern Afghanistan. The agreement between China and Afghanistan for pine nut trade and the establishment of an 'air corridor' for direct import have significantly increased Afghanistan's earnings from pine nut exports to China, which reached 5,561 tons from July 2020 to June 2021.
