French authorities have culled 600,000 to 650,000 chickens, ducks and poultry in the past month to contain the bird flu virus, as the country battles its fourth major outbreak since 2015. The virus was found in 26 farms, primarily in the southwest, and in wild poultery and three barns. Other European countries like Belgium and the UK are also dealing with the H5N1 virus. In France, the government had advised farmers to keep poultry indoors last November to prevent the spread of the virus.
