Namhae-gun in Gyeongnam Province has requested the government to recognize the damage caused to spinach, a major agricultural specialty, due to frequent rain this year as an agricultural disaster. Heavy rain from October to November caused damage to 46% of the region's spinach cultivation area, leading to a 29% decrease in production and a 25% increase in sales price. Despite the decrease in shipments, more farmers are expected to receive compensation as more have signed up for crop disaster insurance, which has increased from 147 households last year to 1,202 this year. The military has also requested the government to provide support for the damage to spinach farms.
