From March 21 to November 21 of the current year, Iran exported 1,080 tons of honey, valued at 860 billion rials ($3 million), to countries such as China, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Germany, the UK, Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Iraq, and Lebanon. The country's annual honey production is around 115,000 tons, with a export capacity of 5,000 to 10,000 tons. The majority of the honey is from multiple plant sources, and the industry employs around 100,000 people. Iran is the world's fourth largest honey producer and fourth largest owner of honeybee colonies, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. The country is developing mandatory standards for honey production to increase quality and prevent fake honey from the market.
