Brazil/CONAB: Orange price drops in January with lower demand; climate sustains vegetables

São Paulo, 02/17/2022 - The 2nd Bulletin of the Brazilian Horticulture Market Modernization Program (Prohort), released this morning by the National Supply Company (Conab), highlights that the weak demand for oranges in January, especially in the first 20 first days of the month, favored the drop in fruit prices in several Supply Centers (Ceasas) in the country. The percentages reached 23.76% in Fortaleza, with oranges being sold at an average of R$ 2.34 per kilo , and 18.65% in Recife, where the average price for the fruit was R$ 1.71/kg. The superintendent of Agro-Food and Sociobiodiversity Studies at Conab, Marisson Marinho, said in a note that in the comparison between January/22 and December/21, in relation to fruits sold at Ceagesp - São Paulo, a drop in persimmon prices was observed ( 45%), pitaya (39%), lychee (37%), cherry (36%), avocado (32%), fig (30%), star fruit (28%) and lemon (21 %).
