Despite expectations that 20-25 percent of Hungarian bakeries would cease to exist or be acquired, the majority managed to stay open despite the challenges posed by the epidemic and rising energy prices. However, due to the coronavirus epidemic, the war, and inflation, bread consumption has decreased in Hungary, leading to a decrease in annual average bread consumption per person from 72 kilograms to 50-52 kilograms. The price of bread has also risen by 52.7 percent in one year, and experts do not anticipate a decrease in bakery product prices in the near future due to other cost factors.
