Hybrid technology boosts broccoli production in Brazil

Technological advances in the field occur in different ways, whether in terms of inputs, agricultural machinery, among other factors. The genetics of seeds in the field of vegetables is fundamental for productivity, guaranteeing characteristics that contribute to leverage the producers' business. In the case of broccoli, for example, the research and development of hybrid varieties was one of the factors responsible for Brazil doubling the production of this product in the national territory. This data from the Brazilian Seed Trade Association (ABCSEM) indicates the importance of genetic improvement in the field. This research work enables cultivation even in areas or periods with higher temperatures, as these materials tolerate tropical rainfall conditions. Broccoli plants, like other vegetables in the brassica family, require mild temperatures to flower and produce.
