The Institute of Research of the Peruvian Amazon (IIAP) transferred 90,000 Amazon fish fry to 61 families of Awajun and mestizo communities in the provinces of Rioja and Moyobamba, in the San Martín region. The act was carried out at the Central Office of the Alto Mayo Protection Forest, in the Nueva Rioja sector. The delivery comprised 60,000 fry of gamitana (Colossoma macropomum) and 30,000 of paco (Piaractus brachypomus). The beneficiaries will also receive technical assistance from the IIAP in fish farming to guarantee adequate management and productive sustainability. According to the institute's projections, these fish will reach 22,500 kilograms of meat which, at S/13 per kilogram, will represent an approximate income of S/292,500 for the households. The act was led by the Minister of the Environment, Nelly Paredes del Castillo, who affirmed that with this ninth delivery of the year, 335,000 fry have been reached in San Martín, which represents 93% of the goal for 2026.
