Brazil: In January, São Paulo consumers paid the lowest price in 10 months for chilled chickens

But not only that, as the average price recorded, of R$11.24 kg, corresponded to the lowest value in the last 10 months, being only above that observed in the 1st quarter of 2022. Even so, by minimal margins, very close to inflation official index accumulated in the same period (5.77% by IPCA). Comparing retail prices to those registered in the Great Wholesale of the city of São Paulo, it is possible to see that in the average of the 25 months between January 2021 and January 2023, the margin between the two segments was, on average, 66%. The lowest variation was recorded in July 2021, when chilled slaughtered chicken reached consumers in São Paulo with an increase of 37% on the retail price. The biggest change occurred in January last year, when the wholesale price suffered a monthly retraction of more than 13%, but retail prices did not fall in the same proportion, resulting in a margin of 100%.
