In Mersin, Turkey, a leading region for honey production, the first pollen harvest of the season has started at zero altitude, with an expected yield of around 200 tons for the year. The high-value pollen, which can cost up to a thousand TL per kilogram due to its health benefits, marks the beginning of a busy beekeeping season. This year's harvest, enhanced by favorable spring weather, is anticipated to surpass last year's 150 tons, involving around 4,000 beekeepers and benefiting 100,000 people in the industry. The Mersin Beekeepers Association looks forward to a productive season, extending from the lowlands to the Toroslar and Eğriçayır plateaus.
