In the first quarter of 2021, agribusiness exports in Rio Grande do Sul saw an 8.4% increase, totaling US $ 2 billion, despite the impact of the drought and pandemic. This growth was primarily driven by tobacco, meat, and cereals, flour, and preparations, with tobacco exports experiencing the highest growth of 27.4%. However, the soy complex saw a 21.9% decrease in sales due to low product availability. China remained the largest export destination, followed by the European Union, while Saudi Arabia, the United States, and South Korea rounded out the top five. The quarter also marked the largest positive balance in formal job generation since 2007, with a total of 26,504 formal jobs.
