In the third quarter of 2022, Minas Gerais saw a significant increase in cattle and swine slaughter, with a 12.5% and 2.1% increase respectively, as reported by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). However, the state experienced a decrease in chicken and milk production, with a 6.8% and 2.4% decrease in output respectively. The rise in cattle slaughter is attributed to growing exports, with beef exports surpassing the previous year's volume by 3.7%. Pork exports also saw a 20.9% increase, contributing to the export of 5.41 thousand tons. Despite the increase in pork exports, Minas Gerais experienced a decrease in chicken exports by 9%. High costs and reduced consumption have led to a 2.4% drop in milk production in the state.
