Indonesia is the world's leading producer of tuna, skipjack, and mackerel tuna, accounting for 15% of global production, according to the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. This is a higher increase than the global average of 3.42%. However, despite this, Indonesia is not the world's largest tuna exporter, with Thailand, China, Spain, Ecuador, and Taiwan holding the top positions. In 2020, Indonesia ranked sixth with a market share of 5.33%. At least 28.8% of Indonesian tuna exports were sent to the European Union in 2021.
