This growth places Indonesia as the leading rice producer in the ASEAN region. The surge in production has reversed the country's import dependency, causing concern for Thailand, the region's main exporter, which has seen a 30% decrease in export volume in the first quarter of 2025. The Indonesian government is actively absorbing farmers' rice at set prices to balance the high production. In 2025, Bulog achieved its highest rice absorption of 2,052,541 tons, and the Government Rice Reserve stock is projected to reach 4 million tons by the end of May 2025.
