Stakeholders from the oil palm industry have called for increased collaboration and clearer policy direction to boost the use of oil palm biomass to support Malaysia's low-carbon goals. This was discussed at the 5th International Oil Palm Biomass Conference 2025. The industry produces over 100 million tonnes of dry biomass annually, which is currently undersused. Chemical engineer Hong Wai Onn suggested a collaborative ecosystem involving government agencies, sustainability standard owners, technology providers, and biomass producers and valorisers. He also highlighted policy gaps and regulatory bottlenecks as barriers to biomass utilisation and recommended the establishment of an inter-ministerial biomass task force to align priorities across key sectors.
