The Potato Union is advocating for retail chains to establish fixed purchase prices for potatoes to stabilize market fluctuations and ensure more stable margins for producers. This proposal, which is under consideration by retailers, could be a precursor to similar agreements in other agricultural sectors. Despite challenging weather conditions this year, Russia has harvested over 7.1 million tons of potatoes, maintaining the same price as last year. However, the price of potatoes has surged by 81% compared to December 2021 due to high demand and low supply, making Russia's potato prices among the lowest in the world. The EEC has set a quota for duty-free import of 150 thousand tons of potatoes for Russia from January 1 to July 31, 2025, to further support price stability.
