Iran is set to boost its honey exports to China following a series of agreements signed after President Ebrahim Raeisi's visit, despite China's honey production being quarter of the global output. With the third-highest honey production worldwide after China and Turkey, Iran is looking to update its statistics to potentially rank second, given its underestimated production of 136,000 tonnes in 2022. The country's honey production is aided by its plant diversity and natural resources, with beekeepers aiming to increase production per colony. The honey export market is on the rise due to growing demand and innovations in harvesting. Iran also houses the world's fourth largest bee colonies, with apiculture playing a significant role in the income of 138,000 people. The country's resistance economy strategy is aimed at reducing reliance on petrodollars and fostering food security through the promotion of local inputs and combating smuggling.
