Despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit, Ireland's food and drink exports performed well in 2021, with the UK remaining a primary export market. Bord Bia has set new targets to further grow the value-chain of Irish food and drink exports, with plans to increase the value of dairy, meat, and livestock exports by 11%, and prepared consumer food exports by 14%. The Irish dairy sector also had a strong performance in 2021, with the value of exports exceeding €5bn for the third consecutive year, and the diversification of the sector paying dividends by accounting for more than 50% of total exports to countries other than the EU and the UK. However, the sector faces challenges such as increased supply chain and input costs, the ongoing impact of Brexit, and a tightening labor market, as well as the need to embed sustainability within all production, manufacturing, and distribution activities.
