The northern Croatian peninsula of Istria has seen a rapid rise in the production and reputation of its extra virgin olive oil, with many awards at international competitions. The region has experienced an olive-growing revolution in recent decades, increasing the number of trees from 254,000 to 1.8 million. Istria has successfully developed oleotourism, attracting around 190,000 visitors each year and participating in international events to share their experiences and learn from other olive-growing regions.
