Between August 1 and September 12, 2021, Georgia exported 5.5 thousand tons of hazelnuts, valued at $24.3 million, marking a 27% increase from the previous year. The majority of these exports were sent to European and neighboring countries. The hazelnut harvest for the year is projected to reach 65-70 thousand tons, with an export potential of $150 million. This is a significant improvement from the low production of 17 thousand tons in 2018, which was attributed to pest issues, but has since improved due to dedicated pest control efforts.
