Joint management of the octopus fishery discussed in the Portuguese Parliament

The proposal follows calls from environmental NGOs, scientists, fishermen's associations and producer organizations for urgent financial support to set up and fund a future joint management committee for the Algarve octopus fishery. Joint fisheries management was defined by Decree-Law No. 73/2020 of September 23 as "a joint management system for living resources and the necessary means for their extraction and economic exploitation, the purpose of which is the sustainable management of resources and the application of the principle of maximum mutual cooperation."
