Kazakhstan has imposed a ban on onion exports for the next three months to prevent mass exportation and stabilize local prices, following a surge in demand due to natural disasters in Pakistan and severe weather conditions in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The country's onion harvest was significantly larger than its domestic consumption, but stocks are now only 14% of last year's total. The decision to ban exports aligns with similar measures taken by Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, and comes as Ukraine experiences its lowest onion production since 2015 due to challenging weather conditions, anticipating importations from Egypt and Iran after the New Year.
