Vietnam's tuna exports to South Korea saw a dramatic increase of 457% in January 2023, making Korea China one of the country's main tuna import markets. This surge is attributed to Korea's declining tuna catch due to a ban on fish lure devices and depleted tuna stocks, leading to a need for imported tuna. In 2022, Vietnam's tuna exports to South Korea experienced steady growth, reaching nearly 7 million USD with a 84% increase compared to 2021. The exports primarily consist of frozen steamed tuna loin, accounting for 69% of the total export turnover. As of 2023, 18 companies are involved in tuna exports to Korea, with Nha Trang Bay, Phat Trien Seafood, and Tuna Vietnam being the leading exporters.
