In 2020, the inland region of La Libertad, Peru, saw a record-breaking total export revenue of $3,186 million, a 35% increase from the previous year, primarily driven by higher sales in gold and fruits. The region's exports were dominated by these two products, with gold contributing to 40% and fruits, mainly blueberries, accounting for 19% of the total. The United States, Canada, Switzerland, the European Union, and the United Kingdom were the main importers of these products. Agro-exports, mainly fresh fruits like blueberries, mandarin, avocado, and banana, have surpassed mining as the primary source of foreign exchange in the region. There was a notable increase in the export of various agricultural products such as onions, bananas, and canned vegetables. Despite the overall growth, fish exports experienced a 3% decline due to lower availability of anchovies.
