In 2022, pig farmers in the South region experienced the best price levels of the year, nearly reaching the prices of the previous year, but overall received lower prices compared to 2021. The total earnings for the year averaged at R$5.76 per kilogram, marking a 7.5% decrease from the previous year. Despite this, it represented a 15% increase from 2020 when prices began to surge. The revenue from selling barley failed to alleviate the financial strain caused by breeding costs, imposing a significant financial burden on pig farmers.
