In the year 2023, Thailand has seen a total of 121 cases of rabies in animals across 27 provinces, with the highest number of cases reported in Chonburi, Ubon Ratchathani, Chachoengsao, Songkhla, and Sa Kaeo provinces. The majority of the infections were in dogs, accounting for 87% of the total. In response to this outbreak, the Department of Livestock Development is implementing measures to control the spread of the disease. These measures include enhancing disease surveillance, creating a network for disease control, accelerating vaccination for dogs and cats, and educating the public about rabies. Additionally, temporary animal epidemic areas will be established around the outbreak points to control the disease and restrict animal movement.
