Belgian aubergine growers have had a challenging year due to competition from Spain, a disappointing summer, and an increase in acreage, partly due to tomato growers switching crops. The ToBRF virus has also impacted growers. However, there is optimism for future growth in aubergine consumption in Belgium and neighboring countries. Grower Jan Heulens is hopeful that the shrinking acreage following a bad year will improve the industry's position.
