The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in South Korea is planning to expand the requirement for pig farms to install eight quarantine facilities, currently only required in specific zones, to nationwide. These facilities include fences, arrival and departure stands, quarantine rooms, waste management facilities, and more. The ministry is revising the 'Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Act' to mandate these measures due to ongoing African Swine Fever outbreaks. The focus will be on guidance for waste management facilities to ensure collection and disposal of dead livestock, rather than enforcement. The Korea Handy Pig Association supports the extension of these facilities but argues that 'all rooms' should not be mandatory, as they are already equipped with fences and would be a duplicate measure.
