The price of palm oil is significantly cheaper than its European competitors, with palm cooking oil priced between IDR 19,900-25,570 per 1 liter and IDR 39,900-45,900 for 2 liters. This is in contrast to imported cooking oils such as sunflower, soybean, and corn oil, which are priced 3-5 times higher. Eddy Martono, chairman of the Indonesian Palm Oil Association, attributes this to palm oil's higher productivity, with each hectare able to produce 4 tons per year, compared to other vegetable oils that produce much less. The lower land use required for palm oil production also contributes to its cost advantage.
