The 3rd International Millet Festival (FESTIMIL) of Niger, held in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, ICRISAT, and the National Institute of Agronomic Research of Niger, emphasized millet's importance as a resilient food source amid climate change. The festival highlighted the nutritional benefits of millet, its cultural significance, and its adaptation to the Sahelian environment. Stakeholders discussed improving millet production, developing marketable processed products, and addressing challenges such as climate change, urban disinterest in millet, and the introduction of new foods in rural areas. Millet is a staple food for 50 million Sahel region inhabitants, covering over 65% of Niger's cultivated area and contributing to three quarters of the country's cereal production.
