The Ministry of Agriculture in Indonesia has developed a modern coconut nursery in Batang Regency, Central Java, as part of the BUN500 program to produce high-quality seeds and boost coconut production. The nursery has the capacity to produce 300 to 400 thousand seedlings per year and will initially produce 120 thousand seedlings to replant on 1,100 hectares of land. The President's goal is to plant 1 million coconuts nationwide in 2022-2023, and the nursery is expected to become a seed center for Java and Sumatra, reducing the need to import seeds. The nursery will produce superior quality seeds for greater coconut productivity and exports, potentially tripling them, with downstream development to follow.
