The Legislature of the province of Misiones enacted the Legal Regime for the Development of Ovine and Caprine Production, a regulatory framework aimed at strengthening an expanding activity with high potential for small and medium-sized producers. The regime establishes mechanisms for promotion, training, technical assistance, and protection of producers against difficulties inherent to the sector, such as predator attacks. In the ovine-caprine basin of the southern province—which includes San José, Profundidad, Fachinal, Cerro Corá, Santa Ana, Garupá, Posadas, La Barca, and Cerro Azul—production is already a complementary source of income for dozens of families. The initiative was presented by PRO deputies Oscar Ratier Berrondo and Natalia Rodríguez along with other legislators, and was reviewed by the Commission on Forest Development, Agribusiness, and Cooperatives.
