Morocco: Onion production increased by 2.2%

Despite numerous fluctuations, Morocco's onion production has jumped 2.2% since 2014. With a harvest of around 907,323 tonnes in 2019, the Kingdom is positioned as the 23rd world producer of onions. The area reserved for onion cultivation is increasing in Morocco. This also applies to yields per hectare. According to data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's (Faostat) statistical agency, in 2018 alone, the area for this vegetable was 36,733 Ha with a yield of 26 tonnes / Ha. , thus making this sector the second after that of the potato. The varieties known in Morocco are the red of Doukkala and the yellow of Valence.
