Pailin and Battambang provinces in Cambodia have seen a significant increase in cassava (tapioca) prices this crop year, due to repeated flooding that damaged 40% of the cultivated area. As a result, the price of fresh cassava has risen to 260 Riel / kg and cassava chips to 780-910 Riel / kg. Despite the higher prices, demand remains strong, with about 1.87 million tons of fresh cassava and 1.2 million tons of cassava chips being exported to Thailand and Vietnam, and 12,000 tons of cassava starch to other countries. Overall, the floods have impacted 40,000 hectares of cassava plantations in Pailin province and 80% of the production in Battambang, but exports to Thailand have increased by 80% compared to last year.
