The Working Group on Consumption Potatoes (WCA) of the NAV has predicted a significant increase in the cost price for potatoes for the 2023 season, following a similar trend from the 2022 season. The calculated cost price for clay delivery from land and delivery from the barn in week 17 are 20.7 cents/kg and 27.4 cents/kg, respectively. Factors contributing to the cost increase include labor, fertilizers, wearing parts, and energy, due to high inflation. The industry is also expected to raise contract prices for French fries potatoes significantly. The WCA calculates a margin of 15% on the basic cost price for the risk taken by the farmer. The cost price of table potatoes is expected to be higher than that of chips potatoes, and growers are encouraged to calculate their own cost price based on yields and quality requirements.
