A new variety of blackberry, BRS Ticuna, with higher productivity and acidity, ideal for processing, has been introduced at the Temperate Climate Fruit Growing Experimental Station of Embrapa Grape and Wine in Vacaria, Campos de Cima da Serra region. Developed by Embrapa Clima Temperado's Genetic Improvement Program, the cultivar can yield up to 18 tons per hectare and has large fruits. The official launch is scheduled for 2023, and a company has been licensed to produce and sell seedlings. The characteristics of the new material were presented to about thirty producers at a field day, and tests have shown that the blackberry is well adapted to the region and performs well in the manufacture of jams and sweets.
