The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced the results of its 2022 national survey for potato wart, which revealed no detection of the fungus in soil samples from fields across Canada. The survey involved testing nearly 1500 soil samples from seed potato fields in provinces including British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. This initiative is part of the Government's efforts to manage and control potato wart, a persistent fungus that can reduce yield and tuber quality, and to reassure trading partners. The findings were shared with the USDA APHIS and the Canadian Potato Council, highlighting Canada's dedication to preventing the spread of potato wart through ongoing surveillance and research.
