The price of oatmeal in Russia has increased for the first time above 80 rubles per kilogram since 2000, with instant cereals reaching 94 rubles per kilogram. This is due to suppliers increasing prices and drought in the regions. Despite a decrease in oat sowing areas, the Ministry of Agriculture believes that there is still enough production to meet domestic market needs. The price increase is also influenced by the cost of packaging and ingredients used in oatmeal porridge. The economic development ministry has raised its inflation estimate for the year to 7.4%, largely due to food component prices rising.
