The EU Council of Agriculture Ministers, under the Slovenian presidency, is convening in Brussels to discuss a variety of agricultural priorities. These include organic farming, animal welfare, unfair practices in the food chain, labeling transparency, pests and diseases, digitization of the veterinary service, and forest policy. The meeting is set to approve the EU Action Plan for the Development of Organic Production, with a goal of having 25% of EU farmland organically grown by 2030. The Commission will also introduce a legislative proposal to ban cages for various animals by 2023, in response to a citizen's initiative, and the Austrian delegation will discuss ways to enhance animal welfare in turkey farming.
