Palm oil production in Indonesia and Malaysia, the world's largest producers, is expected to remain stagnant in 2023 due to labor shortages, low fertilizer application, and slow expansion of new estates, despite a predicted increase in output. Indonesia's production is projected to rise marginally to 50.82 million tonnes, while Malaysia's may reach 19 million tonnes, largely due to domestic processing and a labor crunch. The move to increase the use of palm oil in biodiesel in Indonesia is expected to boost domestic demand. Prices are anticipated to range between 4,000-4,200 ringgit per tonne in 2023, influenced by higher imports by China, export policy changes by Indonesia, and risks to sunflower oil seed production in Ukraine and soybean supply in South America.
