The European Commission's Agricultural Market Outlook for summer 2022 report forecasts a minor rise in the consumption of fresh peaches and nectarines within the EU, from 5.9 to 6.1 kilos per capita, despite a decrease in the purchasing power of consumers. This minor uptick is attributed to increased domestic production, favorable weather conditions, and the recovery of tourism. However, the total EU production of these fruits is projected to remain 9% below the five-year average, largely due to a significant drop in production in Spain, which is experiencing adverse weather conditions. Despite the anticipated increase in domestic production, EU exports of peaches and nectarines are expected to remain stable at around 140,000 tonnes, while imports from third countries are set to rise by 11%.
