The European Commission's summer 2022 agricultural markets report anticipates a 3% increase in the production and consumption of peaches and nectarines within the EU, totaling 3.4 million tonnes, despite a significant drop in production from Spain due to adverse weather conditions. This growth is expected to be balanced by increased production in France, Italy, and Greece. However, EU exports of these fruits are projected to remain stable at around 140,000 tonnes, despite challenges in exporting to Eastern countries. Imports of peaches and nectarines from third countries are predicted to rise by 11%, and intra-community trade is also expected to see an increase in consumption, reaching 6.1 kilos per capita, driven by higher fresh production, favorable weather, and the return of tourism.
