The domestic pepper market in Vietnam has seen a consecutive price drop for the fifth week, with prices ranging from 70,000 VND/kg to 72,500 VND/kg in different provinces. Despite the increase in pepper export volume and turnover in May 2023 compared to the previous month, the average export price of black pepper decreased by 21.7% and white pepper by 18.4% compared to the same period last year. The Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA) attributes the price drop to the imbalance between supply and demand. The pepper market is expected to remain high due to Chinese demand, though it is predicted that Vietnamese pepper prices may be challenged by Brazilian pepper in the future.
