In 2023, Peru's passion fruit exports saw an 11% increase, reaching US$ 66.01 million and placing the country among the top 10 global suppliers and the 3rd in Latin America and the Caribbean. Despite this growth, a significant decrease of -9.8% was observed from January to May due to climatic issues, new pests, and diseases. However, the country is working on a solution in collaboration with the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA). Meanwhile, granadilla shipments slightly decreased but saw a 121.8% increase in the first five months of 2024. Exotic fruits, including passion fruit and granadilla, are also gaining popularity in the cosmetics industry. The Association of Exporters (ADEX) is spearheading efforts to enhance fruit development and quality, with plans to introduce a new commercial variety of passion fruit in two years through the Fruit Roundtable for Industry and the PROFRUT project.
