In 2021, Turkey experienced a significant increase in pistachio exports, with a 76% rise compared to the previous year, totaling $209.7 million. The exports consisted of 20,332 tons and were distributed to 110 countries, with Italy, Germany, and China being the top buyers. Mehmet Çıkmaz, the president of the HOPE Dried Fruits and Products Exporters' Association, attributed this success to the high-quality processing of pistachios in Gaziantep and the increased cultivation of the trees in the region.
